I’m 25 and therefore eligible for importation to the US.

Kinja'd!!!

Here is my GTI and a GT3RS at a cheap hotel on the eve of the F1 British Grand Prix

Post things that you are also eligible for importation to the US, or don’t, I’m not your dad.

Leon711 Trivia, the 711 is the date of my birth, 7th November.

Well I’ve experienced the embarrassment of being British after Brexit, it’ll be nice to not be the butt of jokes for a while.

Hey! I’m impressed that you managed to locate a cake with my name on that wasn’t the same as lasts years, if I recall that was white with blue frosting.

Thank you for the wishes and cake!

I stand by my statement.

If we’re importing 4x4s with questionable underpinnings though, I’d be looking at soviet UAZ’s. Or more likely Lancia Deltas for something more interesting and capable.

Oh man, I never find anything with my name on because it’s just not that common over here (I imagine you know how that feels). I did laugh at how it’s just a generic song with someone shouting “LEON!” over it.

I’m not a fan personally, though I can see why someone would go for that. My great uncle had one throughout the 80s, so I tend to compare them all to that one, and that one was as uninteresting as they get.

Kinja doesn’t let me post pictures from this computer but worthwhile cars (that are affordable) to import:

By affordable I mean attainable for $15k or less USD.

Rally homologation or semi-homologation cars:

Pulsar GTIR - Group A

Famlia GTR or GTAE - Group A

Galant VR4 Evolution or Eterna ZR4 Evolution - Group A

Legacy RS - Group A

ST 185 Celica GT-Four RS aka Carlos Sainz edition - Group A

Lancia Delta Integrale 8v or 16v (evos not available yet and about $20,000 more expensive) - Group A

Ford Sierra (rwd and awd versions) - idk with rwd but the AWD is Group A

Audi Ur-Quattro - not the Group B car but still raced.

Race homologation:

Skyline GTR (R32)

Skyline GTS-R (R31)

Skyline RS Turbo (R30)

Volvo 242 Turbo

Mercedes 190E

Most of the non-rally homologation special cars are expensive. Like E30 M3 for example. Like a Holden VL Commodore Group A would be AMAZING to own but they are like $30,000.

Various FWD cars that were raced like the Peugeot 205 GTI. Not many of these would be worth importing, I think the Peugeot would be but it probably would be a pain to own here with ZERO support for the car.

Regular ass cars that are cool and affordable:

Ford Capri

RWD Skylines and special Skylines like the R31 Autech.

BMW M5 and M6

Ford Falcon XE w/351 Cleveland +++cool factor if UTE - UGLY lol

Holdens with the 4.9L Holden engine.

Civic SiRs especially the CRX.

Mazda Cosmo (80s and 90s versions)

Isuzi 117 (cool looking car)

JZA series MK3 Supra

Nissan March Superturbo

Irmscher Opels

Toyota Soarer

Toyota Aristo - auto only (2jzgte version only worth it)

Nissan Cefiro

Nissan Silvia

Mitsubishi Lancer 1800 or 2000 Turbo

classic Mini

MGB V8

Renault Alpinas

Mazda RX7 FC Infini (lightweight stripped special)

E30 BMW Touring

Cars that are no different than the USDM market can be found is very good condition in Japan. Ie. Toyota MR2s. Otherwise the differences between the JDM and USDM car are negligable.

Some like the Supra or 300ZX (z31) can be found with rare options or minimum low-weight options.

Some like the 200ZR Fairlady Z are different than what you get in the US but not worth importing. The RB20DET is inferior to the VG30ET in this case. However you can get one with almost no options, in clean condition, etc. So it MAY be worth it if you want a car but can’t find a clean one without, say, a sunroof.

I am for sure missing cars. Also this list is more 80s or early 90s cars which is what is my favorite era. However most everything else I can think of is already sold here in acceptable form, are too expensive, or not worth importing.

If you are looking at cars make a huge list like this, with cars of the type you are interested in, and find the best example you can find of the cars on that list and take it. That’s what I did and I ended up with an excellent car.

Luckily I’m not in the US and the UK has reasonably loose rules on importing cars, I don’t know why I haven’t already owned a Japanese import. another advantage is that I’m in a Right Hand drive market, so its more practical for Japanese imports.

lol i should have read your post more throughly. If you are in the UK you have tons of cool options but unlike the US where gas is cheap you probably wouldn’t want a 20B Cosmo that gets like 8 mpg lol or a Ford with a 351 cleveland

Import to the US to like Jersey where gas was $1.50 last time I checked

Eh, I’m used to the price. it’s OK, I’m starting to cycle to work so I’m saving on fuel, if I wasn’t saving for a wedding then a house I’d buy something much more ridiculous than a GTI.

See at least people can buy me something with Leo on it and I can use a sharpie to complete it. With Ulysses you don’t have such luck, but we both have cars named after us, the Seat Leon and Fiat Ulysses.

The Fiat Ulysses is a very rare sight in the UK, usually you see it’s platform mates the Citroën Synergie and Peugeot 806. Of course we couldn’t own these cars, it would be terribly vain to do so. “hi I’m Leon and this is my Leon”
